In the 2005 movie "Batman Begins", at Arkham Asylum where Jonathan Crane (Cillian Murphy) has captured Rachel Dawes (Katie Holmes), Batman (Christian Bale) intervenes and gasses Crane with his own toxin. Batman interrogates Crane who now sees only the Demon Batman, and lets slip that he is working for Ra's al Ghul before passing out with fear.

At the prison where Falcone has been arrested, Jonathan Crane (Cillian Murphy) shows Falcone the burlap-sack mask he wears during his experiments. He releases gas from his suitcase and puts on the mask, which acts as an air filter. Falcone screams with fear at hallucinations caused by the gas.
Later in the Narrows, Crane announces to Rachel Dawes (Katie Holmes) his new alias - "The Scarecrow"
