Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Debuts Safety Car of DTM Racing Series

Mercedes-Benz and its AMG division continue to serve safety cars to the world of racing, this time with the refreshed C63 AMG sedan that will be used for the 2011 DTM touring car season. The Stuttgart automaker’s latest Safety Car will make its premiere on May 1, 2011, at the opening race of the German Touring Car Masters season at the Hockenheimring in Baden-Württemberg.

The new C63 AMG saloon being used for the 2011 DTM season has received some minor enhancements over its stock sibling such as a modified front bumper with enlarged openings and side air outlets, a carbon spoiler lip on the boot lid and carbon fiber exterior mirrors. It rides on 19-inch multispoke alloy wheels painted in matte black with a high-sheen rim flange, shod in 235/35 R 19 front tires and 255/30 R 19 rear tires.

Special features of the DTM Safety Car include the distinctive livery, an LED light bar on the roof, stroboscopic flashing LED lights at the front and rear, and a number plate illuminated with LEDs and the words "Safety Car".
Furthermore, to help it with its new role, the C63 AMG is equipped with a radio system and a TV monitor, while other interior upgrades include the two sport bucket seats with four-point seat belts.
