Norton Commando 961 models

Norton Motorcycles launched two new models at the Carole Nash Bike Show in Birmingham, England. Following up on the success of the Commando 961SE, which sold out on pre-orders before the limited run of 200 units began production, Norton introduced two variations, the standard version Commander 961 Sport and the Commander 961 Café Racer.
Both models use the same engine and chassis as the 961SE. The air-cooled 961cc parallel twin engine with push-rod valve actuation has a claimed power output of 78.9hp at 6,500 rpm and 66.4 ft-lb. of torque at 5,200 rpm. Suspension is provided by adjustable Ohlins shocks while Brembo brakes provide stopping power.

Gone are the 961SE’s carbon fiber components. The Commando 961 Café Racer includes a fly screen, clip-on handlebars and sports exhaust, while the Sport has chromed tubular steel handlebars.
The Norton Commando 961 Café Racer and Sport are available in four color combinations: black and gold, red and gold, yellow and black, and silver, red and black. The Café Racer retails for 13,495 pounds (US$ 22,200) while the Sport retails for 11,995 pounds (US$19,730).

The Norton Commando 961Café Racer was unveiled at the 2009 Carole Nash International Motorcycle and Scooter Show.

Norton is currently accepting orders on both models in the United Kingdom, with international sales expected to begin soon. South Bay Norton of Lomita, Calif., has secured exclusive distribution rights in the United States.
